I fell in love with this book and its inspirational message. Ms. Doolan-Fox took the advice of every fairy tale ever written and went out into the world to make her fortune. How many of us are brave enough to do such a thing? She traveled to foreign countries without even knowing the language, got herself a job and learned the language as she went along. How many of us are capable of such a thing?I appreciated so many things about this book that made it unique. As a few examples: the fact that she always included the translation when she would use a foreign word or expression (most authors don't bother); the constant good humor in the face of so many adversities (being mistaken for a hooker!); her admonition to always double check travel directions after winding up in Stuttgart instead of Switzerland. Her remarks about the kindness of strangers reminded me of the "Walk Across America" books.
Her charming and whimsical use of words and grammar in describing her adventures made me feel as if I actually got to know her in a "BFF" type of way. And the most important truth (for me) that shown through the book was her comment than "in the end, only kindness matters."

I have thouroughly enjoyed reading Celtic Road home. It's a wonderful story and the author is a natual story teller! It is filled with wonderful antidotes and adventure! ❤️❤️
Ann is so positive & shows that perseverance will get you to your goal and your dreams. I was so amazed at all the places she went to without a job or speaking the language. While reading her story, it made me think about my own life and how fortunate my life has been. Truly enjoyed her journey!
Love love love! While reading this book it was so hard for me to put it down.! I felt like I was there on her journey. Amazes me how brave she was to get up and leave to explore other countries without knowing the language or how she was going to make money! So brave and such an inspiration. Thank you for sharing your journey with all of us!
It's rare to find a memoir with the warmth and intimacy of Ann Doolan-Fox's Celtic Road Home. You'll cheer for this young Irish woman's determination as she follows her dreams and sets forth on a journey that spans seven countries. With her indomitable spirit and persistent optimism, she turns obstacles into adventures. Celtic Road Home is as warm as a hug. Enjoy it over a hot cup of tea!
I've known Ann now for quite a few years, and she's talked about putting her life into words many of them. I believed her, but what I didn't expect is how well this book is written. Trust me, I can put a book aside in a hurry if it doesn't grab my attention right away, but when I started reading it, it not only grabbed my every bit of attention, but I was teleported into every bit of the journey. We all know how we sometimes say " I would love to be a fly on the wall to experience what's going on right now", well, reading this book will make you feel like a fly being right there, experiencing every moment. I not only recommend anyone to get this book, nay, I urge you you to get it, it is that good!
Why haven’t all the Book Clubs snapped up this book yet?
Celtic Road Home A Memoir is the perfect piece to use. Ann Doolan-Fox brings us a story that hits all the themes we love to dish about coming of age, leaving home, working her way through Europe, meeting all kinds of odd characters, and finding the love of her life. Come on folks – this is the kind of book we love to read and should be dissecting over our wine and chocolate! As you read the book, you feel like she’s sitting right here with you. Ann is our contemporary but her story is timeless. And the Irish aphorisms she throws throughout only add to the book’s charm and illustrates Ann’s own vibrant and fun personality. This is an easy read - you’ll giggle your way through it - I promise. Five stars.
A memoir is a special thing; your experiences come into the reader's life and interact with their experiences and become content in their head and heart. It's a wonderful way to connect with people and it also involves the courage to be vulnerable.
Ann's story embodies that wonderful connection and her bravery countless times. I get misty eyed at the undeniable truth her mother and father must have worried about her, and I'm glad she called Kay often to check in, no matter the cost. Ann's writing shows what she felt, not just in her head, but in her heart. That's why it's inspiring.
You can tell she has lots of angels around her, living and passed on, and I admire her spirit and how she is easily moved by the wind, not just touched. And I love the message of language being such a valuable thing to be able to learn, no matter what you're doing to make a living, if you can learn a language you're doing something priceless. Ann is also absolutely charming, always getting into the sweets wherever she goes!
I hope to visit Ireland someday, and I'll bring my signed copy of Celtic Road Home. It's been to Louisiana, Utah, California and Arizona so far, even on a Grand Canyon hike. I figured if any book would appreciate travels, it certainly would <3
Amazing book, Ann, Well Done!
Love, and more love,
Lindsay
